What is the student print credit?
For the 2026-27 academic year, eligible UT Austin students receive a $3 print credit that can be used for printing at supported campus printers.
When will I receive my print credit?
Your print credit is added automatically:
- On the first class day of the Fall semester, if you are an active student at that time
- After you become an active student (for example, if you enroll late or start in the spring)
Do I need to do anything to get my credit?
No, if you are eligible, your credit is applied automatically to your printing account.
How does the print credit work when I print?
Your print credit is used first when you print.
- If you have available credit, it will automatically be applied to your print job.
- Once your credit is used up, the system will switch to your regular payment method.
Where can I use my print credit?
You can use your print credit at:
- UT Print (ITS-managed printers), and
- UT Libraries printers and other supported campus locations (such as participating Business School printers)

What happens if my credit runs out?
You can continue printing using a personal payment method (credit card or other accepted options). Printing is not blocked when your credit is used up.
Do unused credits roll over to the next year?
No. Any unused print credit:
- Expires at the end of the Spring semester (on Spring graduation date)
- Does not roll over or carry forward
What if I don’t see my print credit?
If you believe you are eligible but do not see your credit:
- Confirm that your student status is active .
- Wait up to 48 hours after your status becomes active.
If you still don’t see your credit, contact UT Libraries Finance at lib-billing@austin.utexas.edu .

- Choose either a black and white or color printer, depending on your print settings (They will be labeled).
- Log on to the monitor screen (Release Station) above the printers.
- Sign in with your EID or swipe your card.
- Select your print job(s) from the list.
- Click the print button on the monitor.
The funds will be deducted from your account when you print.
The system charged me but my document didn't print.

Please speak with a staff member in the lobby or at the desk. We can't process refunds for Libraries Printing Funds, but we can help you reprint the document without additional charges. Staff will verify your payment and offer a courtesy print.
If the desk is closed, you can print the file yourself using another method:
- Log onto a library computer.
- Download and open the file.
- Click the print button, name the job in the pop-up box, and print.
If you prefer not to pay again, wait until the desk is open or lobby staff is available.
Other Tips
- The printer may need to be overridden on the touch screen.
- Download the file, email it to yourself, open it on a library computer, and print from there. Library computers have a more direct connection to the printers, which usually works more consistently.
I'm trying to print a PDF with digital handwriting, but it's not printing right.
For PDFs with digital handwriting, we recommend printing via a library computer — you do not need to flatten your PDF if printing from a library computer. If you want to print from your own device, you will have to flatten your PDF to avoid errors when printing.
For PC
- Open your document in a PDF viewer (Adobe Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Edge, or your browser's built-in PDF viewer).
- Click File > Print (or press Ctrl+P).
- For the printer, select Microsoft Print to PDF from the dropdown list.
- Click Print, then choose where to save the file.
- Save the PDF with a unique name so you can tell it's the flattened version (for example, add "2.0" to the end).
- Your document is now flattened and ready to upload to print.lib.utexas.edu.
For Mac
- Open your document in Preview.
- Click File > Export.
- Choose where to save it, set the Format to TIFF, and enter 300 for the Resolution. Click Save.
- Find the new TIFF file and open it in Preview.
- Click File > Export as PDF…
- Save the PDF with a unique name so you can tell it's the flattened version (for example, add "2.0" to the end).
- Your document is now flattened and ready to upload to print.lib.utexas.edu.
My document was supposed to be color but it came out black and white.
First, double check your file settings within the Library Print Cloud, under "Print Preview". If they look correct, you could have printed from a black & white printer instead of a color printer. Unfortunately, we can't offer refunds for this mistake. To avoid this, check the signage on the printer to ensure it's a color printer. If your file setting were correct and you verified you did go to the correct printer, or you paid a significant amount, please check with the desk staff and politely ask for further assistance.
The printer cut off my text on the sides!
Sometimes this problem can be fixed by printing from a library computer instead of your personal device. You should also make sure when printing the file, that 'Shrink to Fit' is enabled (This option is usually selected by default for PDF printing).
Note: This is a common issue with 'cheat sheets' or documents that contain a lot of information in a small space. When formatting your cheat sheet, remember that printers cannot print all the way to the edge of the paper. Be sure to leave at least a 0.25-inch margin of white space around the edges to ensure that all your content is printed properly.
There's a paper jam, what do I do?
Please print from another printer and let the front desk know there is a jam.
My print failed. Can I get my print funds back?
If your print job failed because of a system or hardware problem, such as a printer malfunction, you may be able to get your credits back. This isn't automatic. It requires a staff member to review your request and approve it on a case-by-case basis.
When credits will not be restored
- You selected the wrong file or wrong settings
- Your job printed successfully but you didn't pick it up
