Join UT Libraries on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 12-1:15 pm for a hybrid Data & Donuts workshop!

Data & Donuts: SQL and Open Source Relational Databases will provide an introduction to using SQL (Structured Query Language) to store and manage data in open source relational databases like MariaDB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQLite. Gaining familiarity with SQL can help researchers better manage large datasets, construct detailed data queries that can be shared with open source research code, and utilize SQL dependent filtering functionality in open source applications like QGIS software.

This workshop is being hosted by the UT Libraries and UT Open Source Program Office.

Oh, and did we mention free donuts? 🍩 Register today!

Join UT Libraries on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 12-1 pm for a virtual Digital Humanities Workshop!

This workshop will introduce participants to “distant reading,” a form of text analysis. In contrast to “close reading,” distant reading uses computational and visual tools to appreciate the overall structure of texts and explore how they fit in a broader corpus. We will use the Quanteda package in the R programming language, but no prior coding experience is required.
