PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is filled

The UT Libraries and UT Open Source Program Office are excited to announce an Immersive Python Workshop coming up in January 2024! This in-person two-day workshop is aimed at UT students and researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of Python to participate in this workshop. This example-driven two-day workshop will start with an introduction to Python and then allow participants to choose a particular track to learn more about more specific applications of Python. The workshop will conclude by walking through participants the process of openly sharing their code. Please see workshop schedule below for more details.

Day 2:

  • Split tracks (9am - 11am)
    • Sentiment analysis
    • Geospatial analysis
  • Sharing code in GitHub (11am - 12pm)
  • Optional personalized consultation sessions (12pm - 1pm)

Short tutorials alternate with hands-on  practical exercises. Participants are encouraged both to help one another, and to try applying what they learn to their own research problems during and between sessions.

Workshop sessions will run from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CT on January 11th and 12th in the new Scholars Lab in PCL. Immediately following the workshop sessions each day there will be post-instruction consultation sessions in which helpers will be available to help attendees make use of Python in their own research projects. There will be breaks and helpers will be on hand to assist.

For more information/questions contact Meryl Brodsky, meryl.brodsky@austin.utexas.edu

Registration will open on Monday November 27th at 12:00pm.
