Mary Beth Bigger

Ms. Bigger is head librarian of the cataloging department at the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center and is responsible for cataloging all books and similar materials located in the HRC. The General Libraries staff is responsible for HRC Cataloging.

She has been a member of the General Libraries staff since 1970, working first as a clerk-typist in the former Rare Books Library and progressing to her present position as head of the largest department in the general Libraries. She holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Library Science degrees from Austin.

"Mary Beth is highly praised by colleagues as a progressive and successful manager and supervisor, " Mr. Billings said. "She has also really shined in recent years in our staff development efforts. That work has been outstanding."

Ms. Bigger is cited for development of a General Libraries supervisor-training program, preparation of a checklist for the orientation program for new professional librarians and numerous other staff development improvements. She has serve as a coordinator of activities for the Swante Palm Associates, friends of the UT libraries, and as a chairman of a study group to introduce word processing capabilities into General Libraries.
