The UT Libraries Science Fiction collection has been built intentionally since the 1970s, when Harold W. Billings, the director of the Libraries from 1972-2003, personally curated and donated science fiction novels for the Perry-Castañeda Library. We continue to build the collection with: 

Ruth Stephan Poetry Collection at the UT Poetry Center

The Ruth Stephan Poetry Collection was founded in 1965 to promote the reading of poetry for enjoyment and edification. The UT Libraries Poetry Center, which includes the Ruth Stephan Collection, seeks to gather representative works of renowned contemporary poets of the U.S. and international poets in conversation with the U.S. The collection’s unique identity arises from its focus on the work of local poets and of independent publishers, including rare chapbooks and small-run publications.

Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) Map Collection

The Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) Map Collection, consisting of the physical collection and an online collection of scanned maps, provides comprehensive cartographic resources to serve constituents both within and beyond the university’s walls. 

Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) Map Collection

The Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) Map Collection, comprising more than 350,000 items representing all areas of the world, provides comprehensive cartographic resources to serve constituents both within and beyond the university’s walls. Most of the maps in the collection date from 1900 to the present and the collection is continually updated with new and gifted materials. Since 1995, the PCL Map Collection has digitized 70,000 maps from the print collection and has also forged partnerships with local and national archives to create a more comprehensive online map collection.

Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies 臺灣漢學資源中心

The University of Texas Libraries have partnered with the National Central Library of Taiwan to establish the first-ever Taiwan Chinese Studies Resource Center (TCSRC, renamed Taiwan Resource Center for Chinese Studies, TRCCS) as part of its permanent collections.

The National Central Library exchanged a memorandum of understanding with the University Library on November 5, 2012, at a launch event at the Fine Arts Library at The University of Texas at Austin.

African and African Diaspora / African American Collections

The African and African Diaspora/African American collections at the University of Texas at Austin include materials in print, online, microform and other formats. Strengths of the UT Library collections include civil rights, human rights, slavery and Southern and Latin American and Caribbean history.

Middle Eastern Collections

The Middle Eastern collection of the University of Texas at Austin comprises over 128,000 items in a wide range of disciplines, including history, anthropology, and linguistics. The collection prioritizes Arabic, Persian, and Turkish, but it also has holdings in Ottoman Turkish, Azerbaijani, Kurdish, and other languages of the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. The collection’s geographic focus prioritizes Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Turkey. Materials are also collected from and about North Africa, Sudan, and Afghanistan.
