The TexShare Library Card Program
The TexShare Library Card Program provides free reciprocal borrowing privileges to students, faculty, and staff of Texas colleges and universities, and to patrons of participating public libraries. The intent of the program is to promote and facilitate direct access to information among the TexShare Library communities.
Obtaining a TexShare Card
All University of Texas at Austin students, faculty, and staff are eligible to participate in the TexShare program. TexShare cards to be presented at the library the borrower wishes to visit are issued at the Courtesy Borrower Desk in PCL 2.122 during Courtesy Borrower service hours. In order to obtain a TexShare card, members of the university community must clear any financial bars. TexShare cards will not be issued to any borrower whose University of Texas at Austin library privileges have been suspended.
TexShare cards issued to faculty and staff members expire August 31 of the current fiscal year. TexShare cards issued to students are valid for the current semester and expire as of the end of semester due date.
Responsibilities of the Borrower
TexShare Library Card Program participants will:
- Present identification as required.
- Observe the regulations of the lending library.
- Return materials in person or by first class, insured mail as prescribed by the lending library.
- Pay charges assessed for late return, damage or loss of materials.
- Surrender the card if requested by TexShare library staff.
University of Texas at Austin TexShare borrowers who fail to abide by the policies of lending libraries, particularly in terms of returning materials on time or paying for lost materials, may have their library privileges blocked at the University of Texas Libraries.
