Stacks Full of Magic: Fantasy Treasures from the PCL
All-day event
Perry-Castañeda Library

Location: PCL 3rd Floor Book Display

Fantasy fiction as a genre is a sprawling labyrinth under a big tent. With this display, we attempted to sample the fantasy books we've collected at PCL over many decades. We've represented high and low fantasy; middle grade, young adult, and adult titles; and a variety of magical and fantastical creatures in different worlds and settings. Some of these authors, like Terry Pratchett and Anne McCaffrey, are beloved and celebrated pillars of the genre, and some are exciting new authors, like Rebecca Roanhorse and C.L. Polk, who are challenging tropes around sex and gender and utilizing mythologies from the Global South. We’ve selected the first book in a number of series – you can find the rest in the caverns of the PCL Stacks, along with many other treasured books of the fantasy genre. We hope you'll find a new favorite read these books and then explore the catalog for more fantastical adventures!
