Youth Collection

The primary purpose of the Youth Collection is to support students studying in the teacher education and school librarianship programs.  There is also a secondary focus on supporting scholars in education, cultural studies, history and literature who use items from the collection as primary sources in their work.  To this end, historical materials are rarely weeded, though many are housed in the Library Storage Facility.

English is the primary language of the PCL Youth Collection though some subject specialists supporting global studies and foreign language programs add titles in a variety of foreign languages.  In addition to the PCL collection, the Benson Latin American collection has a large Spanish-language juvenile collection.

Youth monographs are mainly purchased in print, though access to electronic resources for juveniles is also available through several TexShare databases.
