Theatre and Dance

The Theatre & Dance collection supports teaching, learning, production, and research through the Ph.D. level in theatre & dance, with attention given to these areas in UT’s Department of Theatre & Dance: performance as public practice, drama and theatre for youth and communities, playwriting, directing, design and technology, dance, and choreography

Newly published playscripts are collected and some duplication in PCL of major works might occur.  Works dealing with drama from a literary standpoint will continue to be found mostly in PCL.

English is the primary language of collection, with a focus on studies concerning the United States, Europe, and Asia. Note that Latin American theatre, dance, and performance materials are collected by the Benson Latin American Collection.

Print and electronic format materials are collected to meet the needs of users. Periodicals and products of mainstream U.S. publishers are frequently collected in electronic format, when available.

Video in any format is especially crucial for the support of theatre and dance and is collected.  Preference is given to streaming video with perpetual rights and DVD.

The Fine Arts Library also owns some archival collections, including those of the Austin Theatre Alliance, and those of former professor emeriti of the Department of Theatre & Dance.
