University of Texas Libraries users and campus community,
Recent events in Minneapolis revived concerns about the troubled relationship between law enforcement and underserved communities, and resulted in protests that occurred nationwide over the weekend. Additionally, the current health crisis has had an outsized effect on some of the very same communities who have been impacted by these systemic failures.
The University of Texas Libraries empathizes with and supports our fellow Americans as they engage in peaceful protest in an effort to secure the equality, civility and justice that have been guaranteed to all people of this country. We stand with those communities that are mourning the loss of human life and questioning inequities in the system in which we all participate.
The Libraries is committed to practices that build upon past efforts of inclusivity and diversity. Our staff reflect the values of our organization in service of infusing the Libraries’ culture and practice with concepts of inclusivity, diversity, equity and accessibility (IDEA) and in becoming a campus leader in evolving a community of fairness. We will continue to make the advancement of these ideals a core principle of our work, and in support of a more just society for all.
