Upcoming Events Oct. 2-3, 2009:

The Project will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a dinner at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, 1900 University Avenue. The dinner is on Oct. 2, 2009, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $50.
We will also explore the Korean and Vietnam war eras, as we look to expand the Project’s scope. We will hold a symposium on October 3, 2009, also at the AT&T Center. Tickets are $20, and include breakfast and lunch.

Celebrate Texas’ first declaration of independence!:

Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will speak at the third annual reenactment of the “Tejano Declaration of Independence” in Austin and San Antonio.

The Austin event will be held on Saturday April 4th 2009 at 2 P.M. at the Mexican American Cultural Center 600 River St.
The San Antonio event will be on Sunday April 5th 2009 at 2 P.M. in front of the Spanish Governors Palace, 105 Plaza de Armas.

The event celebrates the declaration of independence made by Jose Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara Uribe on April 6th 1813, nearly 20 years before independence was declared at Washington-on-the-Brazos. An emerald green flag was flown to signify their independence.
The event will commemorate the flag.

September 26-October 19, 2008:

Dallas, TX – The Dallas Mexican American Historical League is sponsoring the exhibition of the “Defend the Honor” display at the State Fair of Texas. The display will be part of the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science exhibit. Admission to the exhibit is $1. The fair will be open from September 26 through October 19.

July 12-14, 2008:

San Diego, CA – The Project will be in San Diego for the National Council of La Raza’s annual convention. We will have a booth at the convention’s 2008 Latino Expo USA. The Expo is free and open to the public. We hope you will join us there! More information.

July 1-29, 2008::

Big Spring, TX – “Images of Valor,” a traveling exhibit featuring photos from the Project archives will be on display at the Hanger 25 Air Museum. The museum is located at 1911 Apron Drive, Big Spring, TX. Admission is free; museum hours are Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Their phone number is 432-264-1999. “Images of Valor” is available for exhibition through Humanities Texas. More information about the exhibit and information on how to rent it.

March 24-27, 2008:

Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will be participating in a panel at the American Research Association Annual Meeting in New York City the week of March 24th.

March 19-22, 2008:

Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will be participating in a panel discussion at the National Association of Chicana and Chicano Studies (NAACS) annual conference in Austin.

Feb. 27, 2008:

Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will be speaking at the Indiana University Kokomo.

Feb. 13, 2008:

Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will be speaking at the TACHE conference (Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education) .

November 9, 2007:

Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will speak at the UT Brownsville Veteran’s Day Ceremony

October 13, 2007:

Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will participate in a panel discussion at the American Sociological Association in Philadelphia, Penn., titled “Race and Representation in Ken Burns’ ‘The War’”

October 9, 2007:

Dr. Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will preesent a lecture at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, titled “A Legacy Greater than Words”.

June 21-24, 2007:

National Conference of La Raza, Miami, FL

January 13, 2007:

Project director Rivas-Rodriguez gives keynote address, Mexican American School Board Association (MASBA) conference in Corpus Christi.
