Minutes of the Meeting of the University Libraries Committee, December 12 , 2006 from 1-2 PM in PLC 3.204

Present: Michael Winship (chair), Luis Francisco-Revilla, Richard D. Hazeltine, Fred Heath, Blair Morrison, Ken Ralls, Meghan Sitar, Shannon Weigum, Ellen Wilhelm; also Sue Phillips, Dennis Dillon, Robert Foster (recording secretary)

Kay Sewell, associate director for Administrative Services, reviewed the planning for the renovation of PCL 2.500, which is the room at the back of the PCL lobby. The design development took into account remarks on facilities obtained through LibQUAL comments by users. The focus of the design is on adequate seating and outlets for users to whom such spaces are of critical importance for study. There should be new ceiling chandeliers with better lighting, with outlet structures around the room's pillars. Whiteboards and a projector are also being looked at for use by campus groups during selected evenings. There may be at least six group studies included. Demolition for the work begins January 16, 2007 and construction should be complete by August, 2007.

Professor Winship led a general committee discussion of main points in the draft statement, with graphic being prepared by Sue Phillips and Dennis Dillon, to be sent by the committee to the University administration.

Members of the committee cursorily reviewed copies of the University Libraries compact distributed at the end of the previous meeting.
