Minutes of the Meeting of the University Libraries Committee, November 14, 2006 from 1-2 PM in PLC 3.204
Present: Michael Winship (chair), Luis Francisco-Revilla, Jennifer Fuller, Richard Hazeltine, Fred Heath, Janine Henri, Blair Morrison, Kenneth Ralls, Meghan Sitar, Shannon Weigum, Ellen Wilhelm; also Desmond Lawler, Sue Phillips, Dennis Dillon, Robert Foster (recording secretary)
Dennis Dillon presented a statistical profile of the UT Austin libraries and compared it with those of other top public research libraries. He detailed some historical gaps in funding for the library collections, and concluded that such gaps add up, leaving our collections not quite up to peer standards.
Dr. Fred Heath reviewed the PowerPoint Presentation LibQUAL+ qualitative measures of library collections and services for the UT Libraries. He concluded that while measures of faculty and staff satisfaction are better than our peers, there are fundamental measures of library trends that are troubling to administrators and which need emending.
Following these two presentations, there was a brief general discussion of possible procedures for the next meeting of the committee on December 12, where the chairperson indicated that the committee would further discuss crafting a statement by the committee to the University administration on library support.
The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for December 12 at 1 PM in PCL 3.204.
