2012 Recipients of the Library Excellence Award
Library Excellence Awards are given to professional librarians and classified staff in the University of Texas Libraries who have made extraordinary contributions.
Harlin Hanson: Harlin is a real jewel to the UT Libraries organization. His calm demeanor and sense of humor is a real asset to the Libraries. I think of Harlin as the epitome of customer service. He is consistently approachable, well-prepared and poised to take action. He practices active listening, he invests time in thinking and creating solutions, sometimes on his own, but more often by working with others in MCS, and he enjoys providing options.
Boris Brodsky: Boris is the model for the UT Libraries in fostering teamwork and providing exemplary customer service. I cannot think of an employee that works for the UT Libraries that exemplifies these qualities more. As head of circulation at FAL, Boris has created a streamlined, workable system for searching of missing materials, he frequently creates lists of FAL items with unusual statuses to investigate, and he always seeks the easiest, most logical methodology for recurring circulation cleanup projects.
Cindy Fisher: Cindy is a prolific and excellent classroom instructor who gets consistently superior ratings from faculty. She envisioned and led the project, with LIS and TIS staff, to create the Signature Course Faculty Toolkit. Recognizing that many faculty needed more course support than that available from the Libraries, Cindy partnered with the Learning Center and the UGS Writing Coordinator to create a team-based approach to support. It has been successful for faculty and strengthened the Libraries ties with other units on campus. Cindy consistently goes beyond what’s required of her in order to provide an outstanding level of services to both the students and faculty on this campus.
