Biographical Note

John Shown was an artist who spent many years in San Antonio, Texas. He was known for his collages and stitchery wall hangings many of which are owned by collectors across America. Shown created Forum magazine, an Artists Forum of Texas publication. In addition to working as an artist, Shown worked as a writer, lighting and scenic designer, photographer, and film maker.

The John Shown Collection primarily documents Shown's work as an artist while living in San Antonio through inventories, photographs, and slides. Also in the collection are issues of Forum magazine as well as photographs and print materials related to the publication.
