A Guide to the University of Texas at San Antonio: Athletic Department Records, 1981-2011
UTSA Athletics participates in eight NCAA Division I women's sports and seven men's sports including basketball, cross country, football, golf, softball, track and field, and tennis, volleyball. Established in 1975, UTSA athletics began competing in NCAA Division I athletics in 1981. UTSA participated in NCAA athletics as an independent (1981-1982, 1985-1986), and subsequently was a member of the Oil Country Athletic Conference (1983-1985, women's basketball) Trans America Athletic Conference (1986-1987), Southland Conference (1991-2012), Western Athletic Conference (2012-2013), and Conference USA (2013-). UTSA Athletics has had four Athletic Directors beginning with Rudy Davalos (1975-1984), Jim Skaines (Acting Director, 1984-1988), Bobby Thompson (1988-1999), Lynn Hickey (2000-).
