University of Texas at San Antonio Libraries Special Collections This Austin-based, non-profit organization provides one to two weeks of free housing, serigraphy instruction, and use of serigraphy equipment to ten to fifteen artists per year. It was founded by printmaker Sam Coronado in 1993, and takes place at his Coronado Studio in Austin. The collection consists of 242 serigraphy prints made by 200 artists during their participation in the Serie Print Project between 1993 and 2009. Historical Note

This Austin-based, non-profit organization promotes the production of affordable fine art through a type of screen printing called serigraphy. The organizers provide one to two weeks of free housing, serigraphy instruction, and use of serigraphy equipment to ten to fifteen artists per year. The project provides materials and equipment for each artist to create fifty copies of a single print. The Serie Project was founded by printmaker Sam Coronado in 1993, and takes place at his Coronado Studio in Austin.

Two-thirds of the artists accepted to the program are of Latin American decent, and one-third are of other ethnicities. Thirty percent of accepted applicants are from the Austin area, thirty percent are from other regions of Texas, and thirty percent are from other regions of the United States. Ten percent of accepted applicants are from Latin American countries.

Scope and Content Note

The collection is comprised of 242 serigraphy prints made by 200 artists during their participation in the Serie Print Project between 1993 and 2009. The prints are organized by “Serie.” Each “Serie” consists of all the prints produced in one project year. This collection is a complete set of each Serie between Serie I from the 1993-1994 project year, and Serie XVI from the 2008-2009 project year.
