The oral histories in this collection were all completed as class projects in various courses taught Jerri Dee Mitchell, UTSA Department of History, and comply with the standards of the Library of Congress, American Folklife Center's Veterans History Project.
The bulk of this collection consists of oral history audio recordings and transcripts. A limited number of photographic reproductions are included with the interviews.

Arrington enlisted in the Army in September 1941 after finishing nursing school. She served in the Pacific Theater during WWII in the Army and the Korean War in the Air Force. Arrington retired from the Air Force Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Banta joined the Army in 1947 and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He earned numerous service awards, including a Purple Heart.

Drafted in 1967, Fletcher served in the Vietnam War until 1968. After ROTC in college, Fletcher served as an officer from 1975 to 1995 and was involved in America's invasion of Panama as well as the Persian Gulf War.

Garcia was born in Galveston, Texas on May 31, 1920. In September 1942, she enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. During WWII, Garcia served in the US, England, France and Germany. She retired from the US Air Force in November 1962 as a Master Sergeant.

Garza grew up in Laredo, Texas and enlisted in the Navy after high school. He served from 1967 to 1993 in a variety of positions, including Company Commander.
