      <abstract label="Creator Abstract:" encodinganalog="545$a">Emma Martin was born in 1884 in Fort Worth. In 1905, she moved to San Antonio, marrying Claud Julian Carter (son of Edward Frank Carter and Alice B. Cleaves) in 1908.  Carter was founding president of the Women's Democratic Club of Bexar County.  </abstract>
      
      <abstract label="Content Abstract:" encodinganalog="520$a">This collection spans the years 1918-1957 and consists of material on the Democratic National Convention including scrapbooks, name tag/ribbon, program of entertainment booklet, biographical sketches of the Texas Delegates pamphlet, and a Dinner in Honour of the Delegates and Alternates program; other material on the Democratic party including a booklet, The Democrat Who Can Win, invitations; Inaugural ball dance book, Inauguration program, newspaper clippings, correspondence, loose scrapbook pages. </abstract>

    <head>Biographical Note</head><p>Emma Martin was born in 1884 in Fort Worth. In 1905, she moved to San Antonio, marrying Claud Julian Carter (son of Edward Frank Carter and Alice B. Cleaves) in 1908.  Emma and Claud had one son, Chauncey L. Carter, in 1909.  Emma Martin Carter passed away in 1974.</p><p>Carter was a member of the State Association of Texas Pioneers, president of the Woman's Club of San Antonio as well as the founding president of Women's Democratic Club of Bexar County.  </p>

    <head>Scope and Content Note</head><p>The <emph render="bold">Original Deposit of April 2008</emph> series spans the years 1918-1957 and consists of material on the Democratic National Convention including scrapbooks, name tag/ribbon, program of entertainment booklet, biographical sketches of the Texas Delegates pamphlet, and a Dinner in Honour of the Delegates and Alternates program; other material on the Democratic party including a booklet, The Democrat Who Can Win, invitations; Inaugural ball dance book, Inauguration program, newspaper clippings, correspondence, loose scrapbook pages. Much of the correspondence is from representatives, including Morris Shepphard, regarding bills Carter wanted to pass concerning better treatment and education for prisoners.</p><p>The <emph render="bold">Addition of 2009-054</emph> spans the years 1919-1957 and includes clippings, photos, correspondence, newsletters, cards (some of the material from loose scrapbook pages), certificates and other assorted material and are related to Claude J. Carter and wife and focus on Claude’s graduation from law school, marriage, correspondence to and from family members, and involvement in their church and his lodge.</p>
