Garland A. Perry was born in San Augustine County, Texas and is a graduate of Rusk High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from San Houston State University and a MHA Degree in Hospital Administration from Baylor University. Perry is a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. When he retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1967, he moved his family from Houston to Boerne. In Boerne, Perry worked as director of marketing, public relations, and advertising manager for the First National Bank of Boerne. He also provided a historical advertisigin program for additional Hill Country banks. From 1987-1993, Perry served as Kendall County Judge.
Perry is a self-taught photographer who has won numerous awards for his photographs of a variety of subjects. He is the author of Historic Images of Boerne, Texas, a 1982 book about German immigrants in Kendall County and the Texas Hill Country that earned an award for historic books from the 1983 San Antonio Conservation Society. Perry is also the author ofAn American Saga: William George Hughes, 1859-1902: A Pioneer Texas Rancher, His Life, His Times, His Story , which is the story of Hughes who emigrated to the U.S in 1878 and established a 7000 acre ranch near Boerne, Texas.
