Founded in 1933 by Maria R. Magnon, the International Black and White Ball is dedicated to the promotion of
goodwill, friendship and understanding between
the United States and Mexico.
Magnon, whose family moved to San Antonio in 1915 to escape the Mexican Revolution, hoped to bring the two countries closer while introducing young women to society. After her death, Bernard Magnon, her son, continued the tradition.
Each year, high school girl are named to the ball's royal court. They often attend local events and similar balls in Mexico during the year.
