      <abstract label="Content Abstract:" encodinganalog="520$a">The bulk of the collection consists of scrapbooks and programs, also found within the collection is correspondence, clippings, invitations, VHS tapes, photographs and negatives, and notes that pertain to the Balls and the planning of the International Black and White Ball.</abstract>

    <head>Historical Note</head><p>Founded in 1933 by Maria R. Magnon, the International Black and White Ball is dedicated to the promotion of
goodwill, friendship  and understanding between
the United States and Mexico.  </p><p>Magnon, whose family moved to San Antonio in 1915 to escape the Mexican Revolution, hoped to bring the two countries closer while introducing young women to society.  After her death, Bernard Magnon, her son, continued the tradition. </p><p>Each year, high school girl are named to the ball's royal court.  They often attend local events and similar balls in Mexico during the year.  </p><p><emph render="sub">Source: Huddleston, Scott.     <head>Scope and Content Note</head><p>The collection is divided into four series, <emph render="bold">Collected History</emph>, <emph render="bold">Correspondence</emph>, <emph render="bold">Printed Material</emph>, and <emph render="bold">Ephemera</emph>.</p><p>The  <emph render="bold">Collected History</emph> series contains photographs, negatives, contact sheets, scrapbooks, VHS tapes, notes and laminated displays made up of clippings, photographs and invitations that cover the balls and their attendees over the years.</p><p>The <emph render="bold">Correspondence</emph> series contains correspondence to and from Mrs. Magnon, the founder of the International Black and White Ball, or her son, Mr. Bernard Magnon.</p><p>The <emph render="bold">Printed Material</emph> series consists of the International Black and White Ball programs, invitations and clippings.</p><p>A tiara that was worn by the queen from the years 1965-1975 makes up the <emph render="bold">Ephemera</emph> series. </p>
