    <head>Biographical Note</head><p>Frederick Wilkins was born in 1916 in Dallas.  He attended Southern Methodist University where he majored in history.  After college he spent twenty-five years in the Army as a public relations officer.</p><p>Wilkins was married to Frances Semaan who had a career in Oriental carpet and art objects.  The couple shared an interest in Near Eastern and Islamic art, amassing a large collection through their travels. This 300-plus-piece collection was donated to the San Antonio Museum of Art.</p><p>Willkins was interested in the Texas Rangers writing extensively on the subject, including: <title render="italic">The highly irregular irregulars : Texas Rangers in the Mexican War</title>; <title render="italic">The legend begins : the Texas Rangers, 1823-1845</title>; <title render="italic">Defending the borders : the Texas Rangers, 1848-1861</title>; and <title render="italic">The law comes to Texas : the Texas Rangers, 1870-1901</title>. </p><p>Wilkins died in 2004.</p><p><emph render="sub">Source: "A neighborhood treat," <title render="italic">San Antonio Express-News</title>, November 16, 2004</emph></p><p><emph render="sub">Source: Obituary, <title render="italic">San Antonio Express-News</title>, December 17, 2004.</emph></p>

    <head>Scope and Content Note</head><p>The Frederick Wilkins papers are collected into one series, <emph render="bold">Writings</emph>.  The series is further divided into manuscripts, speaking engagements, articles, research material, and assorted material.  These sub-series are comprised of book manuscripts, speeches and interviews, an article, <title render="italic">The Legendary Texas Rangers</title>  , appearing in the magazine <title render="italic">Wild West</title>, photographs, slides, negatives, contact sheets, research notes, a book interview and articles giving writing tips and techniques. </p>
