The University Center is the student union of the University of Texas at San Antonio. The building opened in 1986, undergoing major expansion projects in 1993-1996, and again in 2003-2008. As of 2008, the University Center houses a bookstore, student activities complex, gameroom, auditorium, meeting rooms, and the offices of the University Center Department, Student Life, Student Housing, Alumni Programs, Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, Career Services, and other departments. It also houses the Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success. |

The University Center is the student union of the University of Texas at San Antonio. A student referendum in November 1979 approved the establishment of the University Center; prior to this time, activities and events were not centralized on the campus. The University Center opened in 1986 and serves as "the gathering place for the university community and the focal point for programs, meetings, dining, and relaxation for students, faculty, staff and university guests" ("UTSA University Center: History" [Web page]). The University Center housed UTSA's only campus bar, located in the Roadrunner Roost, operating from 1986 to 1988.
The University Center underwent a major expansion in the 1990s, adding 100,000 square feet and opening in 1996. In 2003, the student body approved the construction of another expansion, which opened in 2008. As of 2008, the University Center houses a bookstore, student activities complex, gameroom, auditorium, meeting rooms, and the offices of the University Center Department, Student Life, Student Housing, Alumni Programs, Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, Career Services, and other departments. It also houses the Tomás Rivera Center for Student Success.

Many records are the office files of the Director of Student Activities.
This collection is housed at UTSA's HemisFair Park Campus, though off-site access is also available at UTSA's John Peace Library.
