The Loving Dozen is a
charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the San Antonio, Texas
community. The organization was founded in 1982 by Rudi R. Rodriguez to provide
"at risk" children with social, nutritional, and educational development.
Correspondence, auction item lists, financial reports, legal documents,
marketing, publicity, agendas and meeting minutes, photographs, video cassette
tapes, and donor lists created by the Loving Dozen organization between 1982
and 2001 make up the bulk of the collection. The Loving Dozen Records are
arranged into three series: Administration, Projects, and
Photographic/Video. |

The Loving Dozen is a charitable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
serving the San Antonio, Texas community. The organization was founded in 1982
by Rudi R. Rodriguez to provide "at risk" children with social, nutritional,
and educational development. The organization first supported the Baptist
Children’s Home in San Antonio, Texas. Each year the Loving Dozen has a
Christmas Gala called “12 Days of Christmas” that acts as the organization’s
chief source of funding.
The organization’s activities include distributing holiday food
baskets, supporting the San Antonio Food Bank, purchasing school supplies other
gifts for economically disadvantaged families and children. The Loving Dozen
also gives bicycles to “at-risk” students who stay in school and receive good
grades through their “A’s Get’s Bikes” program.

Correspondence, auction item lists, financial reports, legal
documents, marketing, publicity, agendas and meeting minutes, photographs,
video cassette tapes, and donor lists created by the Loving Dozen organization
between 1982 and 2001 make up the bulk of the collection. The Loving Dozen
Records are arranged into three series: Administration, Projects, and
Photographic/Video.
The Administration series provides insight into the foundation and
management of the organization through by-laws, lists of Board members, and
correspondence. The Projects series, at about 3,000 items, is the largest
series in the collection. This series includes all the extant documentation of
the charitable fundraisers and initiatives of The Loving Dozen. The
Photographic/Video series holds photo albums and videotapes that document
Loving Dozen projects.

Projects |
|
The Projects series, at about 3,000 items, is the largest series
in the collection. This series includes all the extant documentation of the
charitable fundraisers and initiatives of the Loving Dozen. This series
documents the organizations shift in focus from Baptist Children’s Home to the
school system and San Antonio Food Bank. Of particular note is the Christmas
Party subseries, which is the largest grouping within the Projects series. This
Gala raises funds to help cover the costs of the organization’s many
projects. |
