Historical Note

San Antonio 100 (SA100) is an organization established in 1984 by
seven San Antonio women who participated in the 1983 pilot program of
Leadership Texas, a forum designed to prepare women for the reponsibilties of
leadership at all levels of public service. The purpose of SA100 is to
establish and maintain a membership of at least 100 professional, social, and
community women leaders dedicated to making a positive impact upon San
Antonio.

San Antonio 100 is governed by its Board of Directors comprising
officers of the Executive Committee, three members elected from general
membership, and past presidents. The Executive Committee is headed by the
President and supported by Vice Presidents responsible for committees including
Membership, Programs, Public Relations, Long Range Planning, Research and
Development, and Budget and Finance.

It is through the activities of these committees that the organization
manages to grow, educate, and provide a forum for women in leadership roles in
San Antonio. The Membership Committee is responsible for identifying and
evaluating prospective candidates for membership. It maintains the records of
the organization and the current roster of members. The Program Committee
announces the monthly meetings and provides information regarding the scheduled
programs. The Public Relations Committee disseminates information to members
and to the community. It sends press releases and in 1990 began publishing a
newsletter. The Long Range Planning Committee recommends, monitors, and
implements long range goals of the group. And the Budget and Finance Committee
manages the fiscal affairs, maintains financial records, and works with the
Membership Committee to secure member dues.

Membership in SA100 is by invitation only and meets several times a
year for educational, professional, and social programs relating to women and
their leadership role in San Antonio. The programming formats include lectures
by outside speakers, luncheons, and retreats. As of August, 1996 SA100 remains
an active organization in San Antonio.

Scope and Contents

The records of San Antonio 100, 1983-1994, consist of correspondence,
memos, minutes, reports, printed material, financial material, newspaper
clippings, photographs, and ephemera documenting the foundation, daily
function, and monthly meetings of this San Antonio women's organization. The
collection is arranged into nine series reflecting the group's organizational
structure. The Organizing Papers provide insight into the development of the
organization, and along with Leadership Texas document its relationship to this
state program.

The administrative activities of San Antonio 100 are documented
through the records of the Board of Directors and the Office of President. The
minutes of both the Board and the Executive Committee provide a valuable
overview of the club's activities, interests, and governing structure. The bulk
of the collection is represented by the records of the Membership, Programs,
and Public Relations Committees. These committees are the core of the
organization and the records document their various functions. Other committees
represented in this collection are Long Range Planning and Budget and
Finance.
