Historical Note

The Chauncey Leake History of Medicine Society was founded on the campus of the University of Texas Medical Branch to stimulate and foster interest in the history of medicine and health care. The Society was organized in 1965 as an informal club. In 1983, the membership adopted a constitution and elected its first officers. The Society holds approximately six lectures and events annually, including a spring dinner meeting. In addition, the Society sponsors the Chauncey Leake Award for the best paper and presentation on the history of biology and medicine at the annual National Student Research Forum.
