BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Dr. Robert K. Bing (1929 - ) entered the field of Occupational Therapy in 1952. He came to UTMB in December 1965 to establish an occupational therapy program. He served as the founding Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences from 1968-1980. During this period, Dr. Bing created jointly-administered technical programs in cooperation with Galveston College. These programs included respiratory therapy, radiologic technology, and occupational therapy assistant certification. This joint venture had never been previously attempted in the United States and was considered highly successful. Dr. Bing also served as the President of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) from 1983-1986 and in 1990, he was named Professor Emeritus of Occupational Therapy.
