SCOPE AND CONTENT

The Archives of the Texas Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. (TOTA) are housed in the Moody Medical Library, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The collection occupies 14 linear feet of shelf space, and consists of the administrative records; minutes of meetings; records of various committees, councils, and districts; and publications of TOTA.

The Description of Series included here provides an overview of the archival collection. The subsequent list amplifies the series description by providing detailed information on the contents of each archival box at the folder level. That is, the Container List gives the titles of folders included in boxes. The TOTA Archives consists of 180 folders arranged in 28 boxes.

The TOTA Archives is administered by the staff of the Truman G. Blocker, Jr. History of Medicine Collections, Moody Medical Library. The Blocker Collections is recognized as the largest and most significant resource center for the history of the health sciences in the Southwest. The special collections came into being largely through the efforts of Truman G. Blocker, Jr., M.D. (1909-1984), surgeon, medical educator, and the first president of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.

The TOTA Archives is maintained under the optimal conditions conducive to the preservation of historical materials. Researchers using the Archives are asked to observe Moody Medical Library's regulations for the use of historical materials. The Library offers a photo duplication service of archival materials or reproductions of illustrations for purposes of research, teaching, and publications. A fee is charged for this service.

DESCRIPTION OF SERIES

		Series 1. Administrative Records: This group of records includes the minutes of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee as well as the correspondence of these bodies. Also included are the correspondence of the President and Secretary of TOTA, and files relating to officers, delegates, and membership.
		Series 2. Committees, Councils, and Districts: The series is divided into subseries: Committees (Subseries 2.1), Councils, (Subseries 2.2), and Districts (Subseries 2.3). Records are first arranged alphabetically by name (e.g. Nominating Committee or Council on Development) and then chronologically within each group.
		Series 3. Annual Meetings: Minutes of meetings, programs, correspondence, and other materials relating to annual meetings are contained in this series. Also of interest are the records documenting the plans and activities of TOTA, which hosted the 1969 Annual Meeting of the American Occupational Therapy Association in Dallas.
		Series 4. Subject Files: This series is comprised of files relating to various subjects and/or projects as well as several health care organizations in Texas. A small group of historical materials associated with William R. Dunton is also included.
		Series 5. Publications and Publicity: Issues of the TOTA Newsletter and related correspondence are included in this series. Various newspaper accounts of TOTA activities have been also filed chronologically.
