Singleton, A.O., Sr., M.D.,Surgical Papers, (1929-1979)BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHDr. Singleton was born in Ellis County, Texas in 1882 and received his medical training at the Medical Department of the University in Galveston graduating in 1910. That same year he became an instructor in surgery at the medical school. Intensely interested in every phase of surgery, he wrote more than 50 original articles on the subject and could operate in every field. At University of Texas Medical Branch, Singleton served on the Board of Directors of the John Sealy Hospital and as chief of Surgery. In 1920 he also helped organize hospital records into the unit system, one of the first in this country. Dr. Singleton worked closely with Dr. James Edwin Thompson who had come from England to be the medical school's first professor of surgery. After Dr. Thompson died in 1927, Dr. Singleton became Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department.
