	1873	Born in Florence, Texas.
	1892-94	Attended Baylor University; Waco, Texas.
	1899	Graduated from University of Texas Medical Branch; Galveston, Texas.
	1900	House Surgeon, John Sealy Hospital; Galveston, Texas.
	1901	Demonstrator in Anatomy, University of Texas Medical Branch; Galveston, Texas.
	1902	Post-graduate work at Friederik Wilhelm University; Berlin, Germany.
	1903	Began practice in Waco, Texas.
	1906	Became consulting surgeon for the M.K. & T. Railroad.
	1906-16	Member of the Waco School Board and Board of Health.
	1909	Post-graduate work at Johns Hopkins; Baltimore, Maryland.
	1910	Became consulting surgeon for the Texas Electric Railroad.
	1933	Received honorary LL.D. from Baylor University.
	1933-44	Member of the Board of Regents of the University of Texas.
	1944	Died in Waco, Texas.

The Dr. Kenneth Hazen Aynesworth University of Texas Board of Regents Papers, (1933-1944), consist mainly of correspondence relating to Aynesworth's membership on the Board of Regents of the University of Texas. Little information concerning his career as a physician, private family life and social activities is found in these papers.

As a regent, Dr. Aynesworth served on the Complaints and Grievances Committee, the Medical Branch Committee, the Library Committee, the College of Mines Committee and the Board for Lease of University Lands. As a member of these committees, Aynesworth faced such problems as the administration of the library and acquisition of important new collections on the subjects of Latin America and Texas History, administration of the College of Mines (now the University of Texas at El Paso), charges of communist influence at the University of Texas and so-called unpatriotic behavior that eventually led to the dismissal of three faculty members in 1942, selection of a new president for the University and a new dean for the Medical Branch and the lease of University owned lands to oil and gas companies for exploration.

The activities and controversy at the Medical Branch are very well documented in the papers. Aynesworth believed that this correspondence was so very important that he separated most of it for the 1937-1944 periods from his general correspondence. This separation has been retained in the arrangement of the papers and forms Series 3 of the Aynesworth Papers.

		Series 1 General Regents Correspondence, 1933-1944. Correspondence with fellow regents, faculty, administrators, and interested private citizens concerning the University of Texas.
		Series 2 Board for Lease of University Lands, 1935-1943. Correspondence dealing with the lease of university owned lands to oil and gas companies for exploration.
		Series 3 Medical Branch, 1937-1943. Correspondence, reports, minutes, budgets, dealing with the University of Texas Medical Branch.

Administrative Information

The papers of Dr. Kenneth Hazen Aynesworth (1873-1944), physician, were donated to the History of Medicine and Archives Department of the Moody Medical Library by Mrs. M. Brian Aynesworth, Sr. and Mrs. R. Wilson Crosthwait, Sr. The papers were received on May 20, 1977.

The collection occupies 6.25 linear feet of shelf space and is contained in 15 manuscript boxes.
