INTRODUCTION

The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities (ASBH) was formed in early 1998 as the result of the merger of the American Association of Bioethics (AAB), the Society for Bioethics Consultation (SBC) and the Society for Health and Human Values (SHHV).

COLLECTION DESCRIPTION

The Archives of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities were transferred to the Moody Medical Library in 2002. The collection consists of three archival boxes occupying approximately 15 inches of shelf space.

At this time, it was decided to maintain the provenance of the collection rather than imposing the standard archival organization. Therefore it is divided into three parts:

  • Papers that were provided by Stuart Sprague and concern SBC and SHHV before the merger have been designated Pre-Merger, Box 1, Folders 1-11.
  • Papers that were provided by L. Kopelman and deal with the transition to the merger are designated Transition, Box 1, Folders 11-20.
  • Papers dealing with the merged groups begin with Box 2 of this collection, MS 68.
