Born in San Diego County, California, Dr. Mary Ritchie Key (1924-2003) was awarded a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963. Key was a professor at UC Irvine from 1966 to her retirement in 1991, and continued her research throughout her retirement. She published more than 100 books, articles, and reviews, and was editor of the Intercontinental Dictionary Series.
