Biographical Sketch

Johannes Riedel was born in 1913 in Poland. He lived in Guayaquil, Ecuador, from 1938 to 1948, where he taught, performed, studied, and wrote music professionally. He was a professor of Music and American Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Personal papers of Johannes Riedel include biographical material, sheet music, lyrics, clippings, and recorded music primarily from Ecuador.

A collection of 78 rpm recordings is cataloged in a card file in the Benson Collection rare books and manuscripts reading room. Paper materials, photographs, and tape recordings in the collection are currently unprocessed, but are open for research.
