Historical Note

Acquired between 1967 and 1979, items in the collection were purchased directly from the makers in Bahia de Kino, Sonora, Mexico. Mr. Maddox seems to have acted as a intermediary of some sorts between the original owner, Clotilde Schoendube, who owned all or part of what is now the Maddox Collection, and the Texas Memorial Museum. The collection arrived at the Texas Memorial Museum in the latter half of 1979. It was transferred to the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection in 2013.

Scope and Contents Note

Various items created by the Seri Indians of Mexico, including baskets, masks, arrowheads, bone dolls, and ironwood sculptures.
