Biographical Sketch

Mary Ann Smothers Bruni is a photographer and filmmaker in San Antonio, Texas. Her photographs of the "Los Pastores" festival, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in San Antonio, and of the Kurds in northern Iraq have been exhibited widely. She is the author of Journey Through Kurdistan, Los Pastores: A Limited Edition of Fine Art Prints Celebrating Los Pastores, and the children's book El sueño de Rosita/Rosita's Christmas Wish.

Scope and Contents Note

Approximately 10,000 photographs by Mary Ann Smothers Bruni document the "Los Pastores" festival as traditionally performed in San Antonio Texas from the 1980s through the 2000s. The collection also includes numerous images of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Cathedral of San Fernando in San Antonio, including a large collection of images of Pope John Paul II's 1987 visit. Cataloging is ongoing, but the collection is open to researchers. Please contact the Benson Latin American Collection Rare Books and Manuscripts Reading Room for more information.
