<scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Contents Note</head>
<p>Eighty-four black and white photographs depicting views circa 1904 of three rubber plantations in the state of Tabasco, Mexico: El Coco, Constancia, and Mercedes, near Frontera on the Gulf coast. Some of the photographs were made by C. B. Waite or Adams Hermanos ‪(‬Fotografía Americana‪)‬. Owners, administrators, and laborers are pictured in individual and group photographs; R.A. Morrell appears in photographs of both El Coco and Constancia. Thirty-four images of El Coco plantation depict its headquarters, main house, camp laborers' houses and families, church, stable/grainery, dock, landing, rubber trees, coconut plants, banana trees, and livestock. Thirty-one photographs of Constancia plantation show its headquarters, workers, camps, rubber nursery, transplanted trees, grasslands, store, seashore, forest, and wild rubber trees. Four pictures of Frontera are of the plaza, native houses and coconut palms, and the main street. Thirteen views of the Mercedes plantation show rubber trees, the tree nursery, Mercedes camp, the superintendent and his house, and livestock. Two shots of San Juan Bautista show riverboats at dock.</p></scopecontent>
