Order Sons of America (Council 5) Records, 1927
Mexican American social and civic organization, precursor of the League of United Latin American Citizens. The Alice, Texas, chapter (Council 5) was affiliated with the Order Sons of America (Orden Hijos de América), founded in San Antonio, Texas, in 1921. The 1927 officers were Francisco (Frank) Pérez, president, and Manuel S. Gómez, secretary; Carlos García and Manuel Sáenz Escobar were vice-presidents.
Minutes and financial records for the Alice, Texas, chapter of Order Sons of America, entries dated February through September, 1927. Fund-raising efforts, membership policies, and public schools were discussed at meetings. Members from other chapters attended meetings, and the issues of discrimination against Mexican Americans and of Spanish instruction in the schools were raised. Minutes were taken by Manuel S. Gómez or Juan H. Vela and signed by Francisco Pérez.
