Artist and poet. Born June 13, 1903, in Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico. Moved to Del Rio, Texas, with her family in 1913 and lived there the rest of her life. Known especially for her intricate ink drawings which she called "filigranas," González Amezcua became a well-known artist late in life, exhibiting her work in galleries and museums in the United States and Mexico.

This collection is comprised of poem manuscripts, art exhibit documentation, and correspondence from Mexican American artist Consuelo (Chelo) González Amezcua of Del Rio, Texas. Also included are legal documents and correspondence from Chelo’s estate. Materials date from 1934-1996 and measure 1.2 linear feet. The collection is arranged into seven series: Biographical Information, Correspondence, Art Exhibits, Written Works, Legal Documents, Financial Documents, and Collected Materials.
The first series, Biographical Information, consists of personal and biographical information about Chelo, including her obituary.
Series two, Correspondence, includes letters between Chelo and family members and friends. Also included is a card signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson.
Art Exhibits, the third series, contains correspondence between Chelo and various galleries as well as documentation related to exhibits of Chelo’s work after her death.
The fourth series, Written Works, is comprised of scrapbooks, notebooks, and loose drafts of Chelo’s poetry and music. It also contains articles and unpublished papers about Chelo and her work.
Series five, Legal Documents, includes documentation related to copyright, Chelo’s Estate, and the purchase and sale of Chelo’s house.
Financial Documents comprise the sixth series. These include Chelo’s order book and receipts from the Estate.
The Collected Materials in series seven include personal documents of Chelo’s sister, Zare, and friend, Amy Freeman Lee, as well as various printed materials, such as postcards and sheet music.
