Poet, writer, and community organizer, full name Abelardo Barrientos Delgado, sometimes publishes as Lalo. Born Nov. 27, 1931, in Boquilla de Conchos, Chihuahua, Mexico; Delgado moved to El Paso, Texas in 1943. He attended El Paso public schools and Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso). Delgado has worked as a teacher, social worker, and administrator of community service organizations. He became known as a writer after moving to Denver, Colorado, in the 1960s. He also founded Barrio Publications, which published several collections of his poetry and fiction. His poetry, fiction, and essays have appeared in periodicals and anthologies. Delgado received the Tonatiuh-Quinto Sol Award for literature in 1977.

The collection is organized into four series: 1. Literary Productions, 2. Newsletters and Essays, 3. Correspondence, and 4. Personal and Biographical Materials. Literary productions are organized into two subseries: Poetry and Prose. Each series or subseries is arranged alphabetically or chronologically, as appropriate.
The bulk of the collection consists of literary manuscripts, paste-ups, and self-published works of Abelardo Delgado, from 1968 to 1981. Also included are single poems and newsletters produced by Delgado, as well as reports, incoming correspondence, interviews, ephemera, and articles and newsclippings about Delgado. Titles represented in the collection include: By angrying the gods, Chicano: 25 pieces of a Chicano mind, Here lies Lalo, Sinners fill the eye of God, A thermos bottle full of self-pity, Under the skirt of Lady Justice, and others.
