Biographical Note

Robert James Mullen received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland College Park in 1971. He was a former professor of Art History at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Mullen published a number of books in both Spanish and English related to architecture in colonial Mexico, focused primarily in the state of Oaxaca.

Scope and Contents Note

Negatives and film positives, prints, notes, and color slides dating primarily between the 1970s and 1980s, relating to the architecture in the city and state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The collection documents the colonial architecture in over 200 pueblos in Oaxaca State. The collection is divided into three series, each arranged alphabetically.

The first series,   Oaxaca City (1969-1987, 1.8 linear feet), is divided into two subseries: Religious Architecture and Civil Architecture.

The second series,   Oaxaca State (1969-1995, 4 linear feet), documents the architecture of approximately 30 distritos in Oaxaca State (see map above).

The third series,   Other Mexican States (1968-1971, 1.5 linear feet), documents architecture in areas outside of the state of Oaxaca.
