Scope and Contents Note

The office files of Guy F. Erb include correspondence, publications, written works, meeting agendas and minutes, and other collected materials that document his career and the Mexico-U.S. Business Committee's efforts to build a free trade agreement between the United State and Mexico. Processing of the collection is incomplete, but it is open to researchers. The records are currently arranged in five series: North-South Relations and Mexico-U.S. Business Committee Operations, Written Works by Erb, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Documents, Overseas Development Council Documents, and Background Papers.

The   North-South Relations and Mexico-U.S. Business Committee Operations records include correspondence, publications, meeting minutes, and Erb's personal notes. Two specific categories included in these records include the Mexico-U.S. Business Committees efforts to promote a bilateral framework and free trade agreement with Mexico. Records within each category are organized generally in chronological order.

Series two, Erb's   Written Works, are arranged alphabetically by title, and include drafts, revisions, and published and unpublished papers from 1968 through 1989. This series also includes a set of press clippings that mention Erb.

The third and fourth series include numerous publications and other documents from two organizations that Erb worked with, the   United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the   Overseas Development Council (ODC). The documents from the ODC are not yet fully processed.

The final series of   Background Papers, as yet unprocessed, includes papers, publications, newsclippings, and other documents that Erb collected as background or research material. Subject categories of "Mexico" and "Mexico Debt" are particularly well represented.
