<p>Larry G. Humphreys is a 1968 graduate of the University of Texas with extensive graduate and post-graduate training in photography.</p></bioghist>

<scopecontent encodinganalog="520"><head>Scope and Contents Note</head>
<p>319 color slides and c.1500 black-and-white negatives and contact prints document life in the village of San Carlos (also called Manuel Benavídez), Chihuahua, Mexico. During the winter of 1983, photographer Larry G. Humphreys, with the support of a grant from Mimi Webb Miller of Terlingua and Enrique and Ruby Madrid of Redford, Texas, documented daily life in this small community. Subjects include views of the town, townspeople, and surroundings; religious celebrations; cockfights; and ranch life and the rodeo, among others.</p><p>The Benson Collection web page also hosts an <archref href="http://www.lib.utexas.edu/benson/humphreys/index.html" show="new" actuate="onrequest">on-line exhibit</archref> of some of the Humphreys photographs.</p></scopecontent>
