Scope and Contents Note

Photograph album containing 64 albumen prints of images from Mexico in the late 19th century. Images include town and village views, railroads in landscapes, dwellings and buildings, historical sites and monuments, occupations, and natural scenes. The majority of photographs, and probably all, are by "A. Briquet, Fot." and include a label identifying them as from a series "Vistas Mexicanas" or "Tipos Mexicanos." The photographs that are labeled as such in the album are also accompanied by a number from the series; in the finding aid this number is provided in brackets.

The album has a bookplate stating "Ex libris Dorothy Winslow Hawley" and includes a note by Ms. Winslow Hawley stating, "These pictures were brought from Mexico by my father John Miller Winslow in or before 1887.... John Winslow was with the Mexican National Railroad for seven years, during construction, leaving in 1887. He was superintendant of motor power."

The photograph album was the gift of Roberta W. Brisbin, 1980.
