Scope and Contents Note

Pictorial, topographical, and political maps, dating from c.1500 to 1968, in the Rare Books and Manuscripts collection at the Benson Latin American Collection. The maps are arranged generally according to their geographical location, and are described in the card catalog in the Rare Books and Manuscripts reading room. This guide is only a partial listing. A link is provided for those maps that have been digitized for viewing via the Internet.

Arrangement

The Benson's early and rare maps are shelved numerically by map number. The map number consists of an "M" signifying "map," followed by a number based on the Dewey Decimal classification for geographical location, and a date or approximate date of the map. Map numbers are listed below under the "Box" heading.
