Biographical Sketch

Mexican collector, bibliophile, and publisher of documents relating to Mexican independence. Born 1827 in Aguascalientes, Mexico; died 1893. Published "Colección de documentos para la historia de la guerra de independencia de México de 1808 á 1821".

Scope and Contents

The Hernández y Dávalos Collection is composed of manuscripts and printed material relating primarily to the Mexican independence movement, but also pertaining to conditions in Mexico at the end of the eighteenth century, the empire of Agustín Iturbide, the establishment of the republic, and Mexico's governance and foreign relations, especially with England, France, Spain, and the U.S. Many historical figures of Mexico are represented in the collection.

The Hernández y Dávalos manuscripts, which are described in this calendar, include letters, descriptions of battles, records of insurgents' trials, military service records, documents concerning the conspiracy of Manuel Reyes, the archives of General José de la Cruz, many personal papers of José Mariano Michelena, and material gathered by Carlos María Bustamante to document the independence movement.

Organization and Arrangement

The manuscript collection is described chronologically at the item level, and physically arranged according to a numeric system (the "HD" numbers in the guide) superimposed on the chronological description.
This page presents Part VII of the electronic version of the published calendar guide. Other sections of the electronic guide may be located through the links below:
