         <head>Biographical Note</head>
         <p>Protasio Pérez de Tagle was a lawyer, professor, and politician. He was born in 1839 and died in 1903 in Mexico City. After retiring from public office, Tagle devoted his time to the affairs of the family pulque business, with which he was associated until his death.</p>

         <head>Scope and Contents</head>
         <p>Two bound volumes of account books pertaining to the pulque business of the Tagle family. The first volume spans the period January 1, 1897, through August 31, 1899; the second volume covers the years 1902-1903. </p>
         <p>The account books document business transactions, including sales of pulque, rental income and maintenance expenses for over twenty pulquerías, disbursements to family members, and other payments.</p>

         <p>The Libros de Contabilidad de la Negociación de Pulques de la Familia Tagle were purchased by the Benson Latin American Collection from Amado García Treviño in 1981.</p>
