Administrative History Note

The Camino Real Health Systems Agency (CRHSA) was created in 1975 under a grant from the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, to coordinate and improve health services in a twenty-one county region of South and West Texas. The Agency continued and extended the work of the Alamo Area Council of Governments' Health Coordinating Committee and the Middle Rio Grande Development Council's Health Planning Advisory Committee. A board, consisting of sixteen health care consumers and fourteen health care providers, reviewed and evaluated health project grant applications for the Camino Real region and also produced annual and five-year planning documents for the development of health services in the region. The agency was officially closed October 31, 1982, due to budget cuts at DHEW. Its health planning function was reassumed by the Alamo Area Council of Governments.
