Biographical Note

John R. Knaggs, born in 1934, is the author of three books: Kingmakers: A Novel of Political Ambition and Corruption, Two-Party Texas: The John Tower Era, 1961-1984, and The Bugles Are Silent: A Novel of the Texas Revolution From the Alamo to San Jacinto. He graduated with a BJ degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1961. While a student at UT, he had served as Sports Editor for the campus newspaper the Daily Texan. Knaggs has also served as a Capitol correspondent for UPI and written a weekly political column for the Austin American-Statesman.

Scope and Contents

Correspondence, articles, and publicity materials comprise the John R. Knaggs Papers, 1955-2014, and document Knaggs' writing career and personal and professional interests. The papers contain publicity materials and a Senate Resolution certificate pertaining to Knaggs' book The Bugles Are Silent: A Novel of the Texas Revolution From the Alamo to San Jacinto, as well as newspaper articles written by and about Knaggs from the Dallas Morning News, San Angelo Standard-Times, Austin American-Statesman, and other newspapers. Copies of articles written by Knaggs as Sports Editor for the Daily Texan in 1955 are also included. Correspondence of Knaggs includes a congratulatory letter from Knaggs to Dana X. Bible, former UT football coach and athletic director, and return thank you letter from Bible regarding a tribute from former players of Bible's at UT in 1975.
