Biographical Note

James Kimmins Greer, author and historian, was an early graduate of the University of Texas, earning a bachelors (1918), masters (1922), and doctorate degree (1927). He taught at Texas Women's University, at Howard in Birmingham, Alabama, and at Hardin-Simmons University until his retirement in 1959. He is the author or editor of several works, including Buck Barry, Texas Ranger and Frontiersman, Colonel Jack Hays in the Frontier Southwest, and Louisiana politics, 1845-1861, which may have also been used for Greer's 1927 University of Texas thesis.

Richard Holland, Senior Lecturer in Liberal Arts Honors at the University of Texas at Austin, was a librarian at UT from 1970 to 1987. From 1987 to 1997 he served as Special Collections Librarian and Curator of the Southwestern Writers Collection at Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in San Marcos.
